Don’t feel, when you start to date, that the first man you go out with, will be your soul mate, treat the dating as you would someone you are interviewing for a job, you do not hire the first applicant that comes your way. Be honest and tell the person about your children, but keep them out of the equation, at least until you know the person better. If your expectations are unrealistic, or your requirements are too rigid, you many pass up many opportunities for happiness.
Most of us have probably met potential partners that could have really been good for us. We may have failed to give them a chance, because they didn’t fit into the stereotype society tells us the perfect partner must fit.
If you keep your mind open and try not to judge potential partners on superficial factors, you will broaden your horizons greatly. You will also be much more likely to avoid the unhappiness that can be caused by choosing a partner based on external factors alone, such as looks or income.
I am not saying that you should necessarily form a relationship with a person you find unattractive. If you look a little harder and longer at a person though, you find that attractiveness goes beyond mere physical features. An average looking person with a zest for life and a sense of humor can be much more attractive than a beautiful person with a negative attitude.
It is not wise to form a relationship based on money either. Not that there is anything wrong with falling in love with a rich man or woman. Just don’t make that the basis of the romance. For a happy relationship, there must be more reasons for being with a person than just wanting to share their financial success.
If money is important to you, then it is quite reasonable to want a partner who is also motivated to have material success. But remember, fortunes can be made and lost. Look for a richness of character in a mate as a priority. Then whatever ups and downs life brings, you will have a solid foundation beneath your relationship.
On the subject of financial abundance, it is much better to create the mind-set and attitudes in yourself that bring you money directly, rather than wanting a partner to provide it for you. If you can create everything you desire in your own life, then your perfect partner can be your equal, not your ‘other half.’
The term other half implies that you are only half a person and you need to find a partner that has what you are lacking, and lacks what you have. Let’s say you are a woman. You meet a man who is smart, funny, kind, and adventurous. Being with him makes you happy, but he is a few inches shorter than you. Does it matter?
If it really does matter to you then you have your answer. For many of us though, if we look beyond what we have been taught we should care about, and what other people might think, we will find that it really doesn’t bother us too much.
The same can apply to age, race, religion, skin color, even gender.
While you may have been raised to believe that your perfect partner should be a tall, dark, handsome, white male, if you keep an open mind, you may discover that your truly ideal partner is someone quite different.
The only rule that is worth following in the pursuit of love and happiness is to trust your heart and keep your mind open.
Your perfect partner is simply someone that makes you feel really, really good, just by being around. And there are no age or height limits on that!

A convicted con man wanted for defrauding a widow in Calgary has been arrested in Ontario and will be transferred to the city to face charges.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued last week for Duncan James Ryan, 47, on charges of fraud over $5,000, theft and personation of a lawyer. He was also wanted for parole violations on similar convictions.

Calgary police said Friday that public tips led authorities to Duncan in Ontario, where he was arrested by members of the Niagara Regional Police Service earlier this week.

Ryan is accused of bilking a widow in her late 50s out of more than $25,000, the bulk of her life savings, in less than a month. The victim's friend had met Ryan through an online dating site.

In 2002, Ryan, who worked as a paralegal, was sentenced in Newfoundland and Labrador to two years in prison for a series of fraudulent schemes involving his clients. They lost more than $160,000.

Calgary police are looking for a convicted con man who is accused of defrauding a woman of more than $25,000.

A province-wide warrant was issued Thursday for Duncan James Ryan, 47, also known as James Ryan, of no fixed address. He's wanted for fraud over $5,000, theft and impersonation of a lawyer.

The victim, who is a widow in her late 50s, needed some minor legal matters dealt with and was introduced to Ryan in mid-March by a friend, said Det. Steve Harris.

In less than two weeks, the woman had lost the bulk of her life savings.

The victim's friend had met Ryan through an online dating site, said Harris.

"Like any fraud artist, he's obviously very smooth, good personality, very convincing," he said.

In 2002, Ryan, who worked as a paralegal, was sentenced in Newfoundland to two years in prison for a series of fraudulent schemes involving his clients. They lost more than $160,000.

Ryan is currently also wanted on Canada-wide warrants for parole violations.

Harris said Calgary investigators are also assisting in fraud investigations in Red Deer and Kelowna where a man has been meeting mature, single women through online dating services.
